Preview: Holcombe Waller @ Bottom of the Hill

Portland singer/songwriter Holcombe Waller stops by Bottom of the Hill this Tuesday for the tail-end of his West Coast tour with Mia Doi Todd.

Last time I saw Waller was an unforgettable (and still indescribable) 90-minute set at the Swedish American Hall back in February. If you missed that one, this is another good chance to check him out in a relatively small, intimate venue.

Waller’s third full-length,Into the Dark Unknown, was re-released June 21 on his own Napoleon Records, and boasts 12 songs perfect for those late-night contemplative moments, and the Sunday-morning-alone moments that inevitably follow. His delivery is angelic at times, forceful at others and always intensely personal.

Judging from February’s show, I’m excited to see what other theatrics he’ll have in store Tuesday night. LA singer/songwriter Mia Doi Todd joins Waller for this short tour in support of her 9th album Cosmic Ocean Ship, and Garrett Pierce opens.
