Bon Iver Returns

Seems like you can’t go to a music news source without hearing about Bon Iver, and rightfully so. Justin Vernon’s self-titled second album, Bon Iver, was released across the globe last week.

The album is united by Vernon’s beautiful falsetto and timeless, emotional spark that makes you feel like you’re making history just listening to it. Many are swooning over the single, “Calgary,” and the beautifully spooky and angelic video that was conceptualized by Vernon himself. He also just announced a 43-city international tour that stops in Berkeley at the Greek theater on September 22nd.

While all of that news is impressive, what is most amazing is Vernon’s rendition of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” As the B-side track to the Calgary 12” vinyl, this song is quite possibly one of the most stunning, enduring tracks we’ve heard in a long time. Sure, he’s got an amazing new album and a busy few months ahead, but this kind of release is the thing that will truly make you grasp this man’s talent. It’s just plain gorgeous.
