Preview: San Francisco Free Folk Festival

This weekend, the San Francisco Free Folk Festival returns to the Presidio for its 35th year.

The two-day festival at Presidio Middle School runs from noon-10pm on Saturday and Sunday and boasts a lineup of national, local and up-and-coming folk performers on five different stages. They’ll also have a huge roster of free folk-centric workshops, including a sad song exchange, an exploration of rare folk performances on film (from the likes of Tim Buckley, Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and others), a gospel singalong, and ukulele, pennywhistle and washtub bass lessons.

If dancing is more your style, you can hit any of 35 dance workshops and learn Norwegian, Argentine, Mazurkas, Flamenco, or Beginning Tap. Then head to one of the evening dance parties and show everyone why you’re the best dancer at St. Bernadette’s.
