The Boxing Room: Opening Today in Hayes Valley (Yay!)

Absinthe lovers, it’s time to rejoice. Today marks the grand opening of the Boxing Room, Absinthe’s new sister restaurant located on the very same block. (Woo hoo!) The Boxing Room is a Cajun- and Creole-inspired spot housed on Gough and Grove in the spot that once was Citizen Cake.

The space itself is naturally gorgeous and designers have done everything to maintain the original charm. The high wooded ceilings and modern chandeliers make it feel more summertime campground than Mardi Gras fiesta.

Boxing Room chef, Justin Simoneaux is a Southern Louisiana native. He’s brought his roots into the kitchen with dishes like Deep Fried Alligator, Louisiana Shrimp Po’Boy served with hushpuppies, and Southern Fried Chicken. The impressive wine list is furnished by their neighboring sis, Arlequin wine merchants and the even more impressive beer selection boasts 20 brews on tap. Finish your meal with pastry chef Bill Corbett’s Creole creations including Bananas Foster Cake with cream cheese frosting and bourbon ice cream, Pralines and Cream, or Beignets served with espresso cream.

The best part is that most of the menu items come in at $15 and under. The second best part is that they’re open ’til 2am. For a late night supper, a taste of the South, and bragging rights to all your buddies, head to the Boxing Room for your next big meal on the town.

Like the Boxing Room on Facebook for updates, menu spotlights, and a bit of Cajun flavor in your newsfeed.

P.S. I promise to be back with my first bit impressions as soon as I can get a reservation!
