Bissap Baobab Sold

Well, the rumors were true and popular Mission eatery Bissap Baobab has officially been sold. But all is not lost, owner Marco Senghor is simply consolidating the restaurant with his other businesses, Bollyhood Café and Little Baobab (you may remember it as the original location of Bissap Baobab), around the corner on 19th Street.

Mission Local reports that, “Bissap Baobab was sold to Ben Bleiman and Duncan Ley, owners of the Bullitt and Tonic bar and restaurants on Polk Street. A spokesman for the group said they plan to open a bar and grill on the site sometime this year.”

Senghor plans to called the new venue “Bissap Baobab and the Mosaic Diaspora” with an opening date set for later this month. I’m not so sure about the name, but I do hope the chef stays the same. Baobab has long been one of my fav spots in the city. I loved taking out-of-town friends and giving them a taste of Senegalese cuisine and a unique, wonderfully SF environment.

All in all, there’ll be more good times to spread around.
