Throwback Video: Notorious B.I.G.

Local hip hop station KMEL’s Summer Jam 1995 produced not only drama but also excellent vintage footage of the late, great Notorious B.I.G.

The Summer Jam 1995 was most memorable because of the huge fight that broke out backstage after previous year’s headliner Too Short showed up coming face to face with rivals The Luniz.

That same year was when rapper Notorious B.I.G. first started to blow up, dominating the Billboard charts and music awards after the 1994 release of his debut album Ready to Die. Tupac was still in jail at the time and the Bad Boy vs. Death Row record label as well as coastal war had not yet begun so Biggie was a highly anticipated and welcomed performer at the annual concert.

This footage of Biggie, with Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s Lil’ Cease as hype man, performing the song “Warning” was just unearthed by The Fader and shows the true talent of an artist whose life and career was cut way too short at the age of 24.
