James Beard Award Finalists Named
The finalists for the prestigious James Beard Foundation Awards have been named and the Bay Area is once again very well represented.
Along with several finalists in the writing categories, many restaurants and chefs have been honored.
In the category of Outstanding Chef, chefs Gary Danko of Restaurant Gary Danko and Charles Phan of The Slanted Door are both finalists.
Chef and owner Corey Lee also nabbed a nomination for his restaurant Benu in the category of Best New Restaurant.
San Francisco’s venerable Boulevard made the list for Outstanding Restaurant. And Chef Thomas McNaughton with Flour + Water and Aaron London with Ubuntu in Napa are two of the five finalists in the Rising Star Chef category.
In terms of Best Chef: Pacific, which includes the entire states of California and Hawaii, the Bay Area took four of the five nominations: Christopher Kostow with The Restaurant at Meadowood in St. Helena, Daniel Patterson with Coi in San Francisco, Richard Reddington with Redd in Yountville and Michael Tusk with Quince in San Francisco.
The winners will be announced on May 9 in New York City.
