San Francisco is once again well-represented, as the semifinalists have been named for the prestigious James Beard Foundation Awards.

A list of finalists will be announced in March.  But there is plenty of local flavor on the list.

Up for Best New Restaurant: Bar Agricole, Benu, Commonwealth and Prospect. Michael Mina, Gary Danko and Charles Phan made the cut for Outstanding Chef. And Boulevard and The Slanted Door were listed in the Oustanding Restaurant category.

Flour + Water’s Thomas McNaughton was one of four Bay Area chefs to make the list for Rising Star Chef of the Year, joining Sean Baker of Gather in Berkeley, Aaron London of Ubuntu in Napa and Perry Hoffman of étoile Restaurant at Domaine Chandon in Yountville.

The awards will be handed out in New York on May 9.
