Transit Options Plentiful for New Year’s Eve Revelers

Planning on partying in San Francisco as you ring in the new year? Mass transit is usually the safest and most convenient option.

San Francisco Muni will once again be providing free rides on New Year’s Eve. The rides will begin at 8 pm Friday night and last until 6 am Saturday morning.

There will also be special Muni Metro service extended until approximately 2:15 am between West Portal Station and 4th and King streets and until 4 am between the West Portal and Embarcadero stations.

Extra service will also be deployed on Muni Owl bus routes.

BART will also provide extended New Year’s Eve service until 3 am.

After 8 pm, service to and from the East Bay will be separated between the Embarcadero and Montgomery stations.

Those on the Pittsburg/Bay Point and Richmond trains will use the Montgomery station to exit. People coming from Dublin/Pleasanton and Fremont trains will use the Embarcadero station.

The split will be in practice until 1 am.

Motorists are also advised to expect delays near the Embarcadero, which is where the annual fireworks show will be taking place. Additionally, there could be delays in and around the Civic Center due to various celebrations there.
