Morning Beat: X-mas With X

You gotta give it up to Slim’s for keeping its punk rock traditions alive. Fresh on the heals of The Vandals Annual Christmas Formal, the SoMa rock venue is shaking up the block again with two nights of X-mas with X, featuring a special appearance by Ray Manzarek of The Doors on keys.

X is nearing punk-rock Rolling Stones status. Few bands from the late-70s L.A. punk scene are still around and kicking, and even less can compete with X’s tour schedule. Their visit to SF celebrates the 30th anniversary of Los Angeles, the band’s signature album that was recorded in 1980 with help from Manzarek. X will perform the album in its entirety following a screening of X the Unheard Music. Look out for a few revised Christmas classics, as well. Definitely a must-see show if you can scrap together the doe to make it tonight or tomorrow. More info
