Season Ends for 49ers

In what can be only described as a season of discontent, the 49ers ended 2010 with a whimper rather than a bang. Losing yesterday to the St. Louis Rams, 25-17, and ending any hope for getting into the playoffs, the franchise will also be saying goodbye to head coach Mike Singletary, and most likely Quarterback Alex Smith as well.

CSN reports that, “The 49ers fired coach Mike Singletary late Sunday upon arriving back at their Santa Clara practice facility after being eliminated from playoff contention earlier in the day with a 25-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams.

“We didn’t want to be dismissing our players for the offseason at the same time we were dismissing the coach,” team president and CEO Jed York told Comcast SportsNet. “We wanted the players to see some unity in the faces they see and the messages they’re hearing.”
