Obamas to Enjoy Napa for Holidays

No, President Barack Obama and his family will not be visiting wine country over the holidays. But First Lady Michelle Obama’s press secretary, Katie McCormick Lelyveld tells the Wall Street Journal that they will be enjoying some of their favorite wines from the area.

In looking at what the Obamas would be drinking during private dinners, McCormick Lelyveld offered few details, but did specifically mention two wineries: Landmark Vineyards in Kenwood and Pride Mountain Vineyards in St. Helena.

“Both offer great stories of women who developed a passion for the industry,” she said.

Mary Colhoun is the public face of Landmark and Carolyn Pride is well known as “Ranch Mama” at Pride.

It is not known if the First Family will be indulging in a bottle of Kendall Jackson Vintners Reserve Chardonnay, one of Mr. Obama’s reputed favorites.

But McCormick Lelyveld said the wine selection process is fairly democratic, as “the White House chefs, military musicians and administrative staff all participated in their selection.”
