Join the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) for the 18th annual Lunar New Year celebration, a fortune-filled family-friendly event to welcome in the Year of the Pig. Celebrate with spectacular cultural performances, demonstrations, traditional and contemporary music and dance, and much more. Explore connections between the diverse Asian cultures represented in California, including Chinese, Tibetan, Korean, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Japanese, and more.
Enjoy spectacular lion and dragon dances by the Developing Virtue Secondary School, Chinese acrobatics by local favorite Red Panda Acrobats, and a magic show by Perry Yan the Magician. Hear traditional Vietnamese instruments by Emmy-award winning composer Van-Anh Vanessa Vo and watch our live performances, including a martial arts demonstration by Vovinam America, Japanese taiko by Jiten Daiko, Philippine folk dance by American Center of Philippine Arts, Korean drumming by EGO, and K-pop dance by KPG Cal.
Learn how to drink Gong Fu Cha and make Vietnamese spring rolls. Explore our hands-on activities, make Tibetan prayer flags, learn to create Bok Jumoni, and play I Ching games. Other family-friendly fun includes Lunar New Year stories by Oliver Chin, ASL storytelling, and a petting zoo with farm animals.
The Lunar New Year Celebration is presented in collaboration with Deaf Counseling Advocacy and Referral Agency and Bay Area Asian Deaf Association.
