Celebrating 500 Years Reformation in the SF Bay Area
WHEN WORDS TURN INTO IMAGES
Exhibition by Wenzel Ziersch
Writing images -- that's the idea of Wenzel Ziersch's art. Word turns into image, writing turns into forming, into movement, into "morphology." Wenzel Ziersch transcribes complete texts from famous authors like Mabel Collins, Rudolf Steiner or Lao Tse and -- of course -- from the German Bible which texts were translated by Martin Luther.
He creates fascinating scripts with words lined up closely on several layers with ink or etched into a black coating on Plexiglass, wood or paper.
For this exhibition and in the context of the Luther-Year, Wenzel Ziersch specifically selected works of older series as well as latest pieces of art from his three groups of work: "Gegenbild," "Einschreibung," and "Übung," which translates to "antithesis," "registration," and "exercise."
Wenzel Ziersch was born in 1965 in Munich and currently lives in Bavaria. In 2002 Ziersch exhibited at the Goethe-Institut Toronto. He will be present for the opening reception.
