Judging from the band's current popularity, it's hard to believe that it took a bit of time for Ohio indie rock band The National to find their audience. They had moderate success with their self-titled, alt-country debut album in 2001, but after years of honing their Americana indie rock sound to perfection, they released the albums Alligator (2006) and Boxer (2007) and these works would catapult The National to international fame. Their melancholy, often politically-themed songs coincided with the social unrest surrounding the 2008 U.S. presidential election, amplifying their music's resonance with indie music fans worldwide. The following years produced the acclaimed indie favorite albums "High Violet" (2010), Trouble Will Find Me (2013), Sleep Well Beast (2017) and I Am Easy To Find (2019), with Sleep Well Beast winning the Grammy award for Best Alternative Music Album. Since then, demand for The National concert tickets remains high, as devotees regularly flock to see them perform songs like Fake Empire, Mistaken For Strangers, Mr. November, The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness, Slow Show, Bloodbuzz Ohio and Terrible Love LIVE in concert. Frontman Matt Berninger's moody baritone vocals pack an emotional punch while rhythmic guitar work and steady mid-tempo drum beats mesmerize audiences into a spiritual yet toe-tapping dream state. The National have also collaborated with a host of acclaimed artists including Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent and Richard Reed from Arcade fire, while critics have compared the National's music to Wilco, Leonard Cohen and The Antlers. The National's latest album First Two Pages of Frankenstein with its chart-topping single Tropic Morning News, arrives April 28, 2023 and includes features from Phoebe Bridgers, Sufjan Stevens, and Taylor Swift.

Both individually and collectively The National's members have been involved in countless artistic, charitable and socio-political pursuits. The group released "A Lot of Sorrow" documenting their collaboration with installation artist Ragnar Kjartansson, that took place at MOMA's PS1 and saw the band play their song "Sorrow" for six hours in front of a live audience. They are behind the Red Hot benefit albums Dark Was The Night and Day Of The Dead, and the compilation boxed set titled 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood. Band member's have received a Golden Globe Nomination for work on the score of the 2015 film Revenant, founded or play a major part in MusicNow, Eaux Claires and Haven Festival and Boston Calling, and participated heavily in both Obama Presidential Campaigns, and much more. The National consists of Matt Berninger (vocals) fronting two pairs of brothers: Aaron (guitar, bass, piano) and Bryce Dessner (guitar, piano), and Scott (bass, guitar) and Bryan Devendorf (drums).

On The War On Drugs' 2017 album A Deeper Understanding, Adam Granduciel sang about wanting to "find what can't be found." In a way, the history of this band has been a chronicle of their frontman's ongoing search for greater meaning. Along the way, they've grown with each record. In the aftermath of A Deeper Understanding, they won a Grammy for Best Rock Album. The New Yorker called them "the best American 'rock' band of this decade." Even The Rolling Stones recognized Granduciel's talents, inviting him to remix their long lost collaboration with Jimmy Page, "Scarlet," which was previously an unreleased gem from Goats Head Soup. By any metric, The War On Drugs have made it. They are now firmly embedded in the classic rock lineage.

Lucius

Acclaimed indie band Lucius has been turning heads since the start thanks to their irrepressibly catchy songs, explosive harmonies, and bold aesthetic. Formed by Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, the Los Angeles group got rolling with their 2013 debut album Wildewoman -- featuring long-standing hits like "Two of Us on the Run". Rolling Stone hailed the record for "an updated '60s girl-group sound at once fresh and thrilling." Lucius shifted towards a folk rock sound with 2016's Good Grief before taking a break from the studio to join Roger Waters on his Us + Them Tour in 2017-18. Lucius returned to the studio in 2022 with the dance-ready collection Second Nature, which features singles "Next to Normal", one of NPR Music's top songs of the year and "Dance Around It" the pulsing song with Sheryl Crow and Brandi Carlile. In addition to their own work, the GRAMMY-nominated Wolfe and Laessig are singers in demand: their voices have graced songs by a host of other artists, including Carlile, The War on Drugs, John Legend, Harry Styles, Jeff Tweedy and Ozzy Osbourne.
