The Chapel Presents Afrofunk Experience & Friends Plus FatheR BrotheR Sun in San Francisco

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Afrofunk Experience and Friends

These purveyors of original Afrobeat, Reggae, and Funk music are dance floor veterans, with current and former members of Spearhead, Afrolicious, Katdelic and Broun Fellinis among them. They will get you moving with their funky rhythms, draw you in with their soulful singing, and carry you away with their spirit-filled solos.

Winners of the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding World Music Album, 2010 (W/ Sila and the Afrofunk Experience) for Black President

Guitarist/Singer David James (Spearhead, The Coup, Beth Custer) brings his sinewy style to counter the funk-metal stylings of lead guitarist Ken House (H.P. Riot). The precise funk-rock drumming of Paul Olipant (Afrolicious, Will Magid Trio) with Wendell Rand's (Afrolicious, Tracorum, Youssoupha Sidibe) muscular dance grooves keep the band tight, while saxophonist David Boyce (Broun Fellinis, The Supplicants) and trombonist Alan Williams (Manicato, Katdelic) wail, their horns producing a sound that encompasses outward-bound jazz, classic reggae, afrobeat and R&B. Percussionist B. Lee thickens and adds flavor to the mix, and on top of all this, recent addition Sandy House adds her sultry voice and powerful stage presence.

FatheR BrotheR Sun
FatheR BrotheR Sun, also known as FBS, is a 9 piece band with three main vocalists, a horn and rhythm section, who are a wonderful fusion of funk, hip hop, r & b, rock, and soul music. The band was forged together by band leader Atiim Chenzira, to highlight the vocals of Chloe Jean, himself, and Ali Hammad; who all have original and cover material which the band re-interprets and brings a sound reminiscent of Sly & The Family Stone and Tower of Power, among others, to the stage. There stage presence is magnetic and energetic, soulful, and captivating.

FRBRS began playing together in early 2014 to support Atiim Chenzira's newest body of work, 'Aspectz Of Me: (Vol. A & B)', a double album of 22 tracks, playing around the local Bay Area. Later in the year, Chloe Jean released her newest body of work titled 'Freak', which the band has also incorporated into their show. In late 2014 the band entered Skyline Studios in Oakland to record their live versions of both Chloe's & Atiim's songs, and Ali Hammad's latest single, 'Sang', along with a few cover songs to begin booking FRBRS for 2015.
