Still Here is a performance and community dialogue project that explores the experiences of Queer/LGBTQI individuals raised in San Francisco and still residing in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Still Here was born from the childhood friendship of Cristina Mitra and Natalia Vigil. Best friends and queer women of color raised in San Francisco, they are curating a series of performances called "Still Here" for the 2013 National Queer Arts Festival. With the AIDS crisis in the backdrop of their childhoods, they came of age - and came out - during a period of great visibility and simultaneous loss for the Queer/LGBTQI communities of San Francisco. Because an event such as Still Here has never been created before, they want to bring together others raised during this time to foster visibility and dialogue about the virtually unexplored issues that face Queer/LGBTQI individuals raised in San Francisco and currently residing in the Bay Area. This show is a collaboration between Galeria de la Raza and Queer Cultural Center.
