Shoerageous

SEE EVENT DETAILS
A Creativity Explored artist-curated exhibition featuring outrageous shoes in all colors, shapes, and sizes.

For centuries, shoes (and shoemakers) have inspired artists. Now the public can experience how sneakers, slippers, clogs, boots, pumps, and other forms of footwear have similarly inspired Creativity Explored’s artists in Shoerageous.

This group exhibition includes work by more than two dozen of the organization’s artists, who render shoes in all shapes and sizes, from a ceramic cupcake-tiered high heel to two-dimensional drawings of branded athletic footwear.

Curated by Creativity Explored artists Joseph "J.D." Green and Gerald Wiggins (with assistance from Visual Arts Instructor Paul Moshammer), this sole-searching exhibition literally puts the viewer “in their shoes.” Through all matter of media (ceramic, air dry clay, digital prints, cardboard cutouts, papier maché, acrylic, and oil pastel) the wide array of shoes depicted in Shoerageous is suggestive of the personalities of each artist who has selected footwear that is personally appealing, exotic, or just plain practical.

Shoes can communicate so much about the wearer: athletic, flamboyant, casual, professional. Green said, “Gerald and I got the idea for this show from looking at everyone’s shoes – all the styles and brands.” Wiggins commented on Green’s and his curatorial role: “We pick what artwork goes into the front gallery and the windows, choose the backdrops, decide on frames and arrangements – we’re in charge of the whole thing, which is really fun.”

Shoerageous boldly shows how wonderfully diverse self-expression can be while also showcasing some lesser-known talents of Creativity Explored studio artists, including curating skills.

Join us at the opening reception, and be sure to wear your most outrageous shoes!

Participating artists include: Ian Adams, Zachary Adams, Antonio Benjamin, Laron Bickerstaff, Andrew Bixler, Elana Cooper, Christina Marie Fong, Joseph "J.D." Green, Nita Hicks, Camile Holvoet, Eva Jun, Hector Lopez, Berhta Otoya, Paul Pulizzano, Yolanda Remirez, Ethel Revita, Emma Reyes, Clementina Rivera, Ka Wai Shiu, Miyuki Tsurukawa, Kathy Wen, Gerald Wiggins, and Doris Yen.

Curated by CE artists Joseph "J.D." Green and Gerald Wiggins.
