Liz Robb

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Transmission Gallery is pleased to present new work by Liz Robb.

Trained in the fine art of textiles, Liz utilizes her skill and proficiency to sculpt textured surfaces and forms using natural materials such as cotton, wool, beeswax and indigo. Having an expert understanding of her materials and the various processes used to fabricate textiles, Liz deconstructs and reconstructs these processes and materials to build new relationships with her art.

“I work sculpturally to capture a moment in time using active processes that become meditations: indigo dyeing, weaving, wrapping, compressing, structuring, ordering, and releasing. The repetition of these acts fosters a connection between the subconscious mind and the body, and these full body rhythmic movements allow my stream of consciousness to expand on certain conceptual ideas and develop more thoughtful conclusions.

“My work is on the continuum of dialogue between the grid and its manifestations as form, content, and medium through threads, weaving, and painting. I utilize the power of the materials to construct architectural frames from which to build weighted objects in space. Localized patterns of organization translate unique spatial and physical relationships between the viewer and the sculptures.” – Liz Robb

Receiving her BFA in Fashion Design from the University of Cincinnati, Robb worked as a fashion designer specializing in sweater and knit design. Transitioning her craft to fine art she received her MFA in Fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Liz has exhibited her work internationally and has been awarded international residencies in Lacoste, France and Blönduós, Iceland.

There will be an opening reception Friday, August 7th 6-9pm.
