HiLLBiLLY ROBOT "Songs of '69: A Tribute"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
HiLLBiLLY ROBOT returns for round two! The festival, we mean event, runs every weekend in February and features a variety of urban-flavored Americana; from classic country to alt-country to traditional bluegrass to outlaw bluegrass to raw-n-roll blues to indie-pop with hints of twang. This year's event welcomes the return of "Portland Invasion" (yeah!) and new show "Songs of '69: a Tribute to an Amazing Year in Music", plus popular festival mainstays; "Honky-Tonk Showdown", "Bluegrass Bonanza", "Americana Jukebox", and a CD release show! No matter what your listening pallet may be (city or country) we've got a little something for everyone. So break out your bestest overalls, spit-shine your boots, and head on down to Hillbilly Robot for some good old-fashioned downhome music.

"Songs of '69" features an all-star lineup of some of the Bay Area's hottest guitar and banjo pickers and singers doing their unique take on classic songs from one of the best years in music...ever- 1969. 1000s of records were released that year, from rock to country to bluegrass. And tonight's show will play tribute to many of those iconic records, including songs from the Stones, the Beatles, the Stooges, the Zombies, the Archies, the Velvet Underground, Led Zepplin, David Bowie, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Sly & the Family Stone, Elvis, Donovan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, The Byrds, Stanley Brothers, and Johnny, George, Merle, and Buck.

MISISIPI MIKE & THE MIDNIGHT GAMBLERS (SF)
Mike will never admit this, but he's the hardest workin’ man on the local music scene and a local hero who's kept country music alive in San Francisco for over 20 years. He plays in about 100 bands, hosts his own online radio show, and plays music just about every night of the week. And his band are a who's who of local country/Americana/and bluegrass pickers.

THE BEAUTY OPERATORS (SF)
Born on the mean streets of San Francisco and out of local bluegrass jams, the Beauty Operators take their love of music and mayhem to create a fresh and unique sound...part bluegrass, part punk-grass, and the occasional classic pop cover.

NOMADS (SF)
Featuring Hassan El-Tayyab of American Nomad and Tracey Holland of Vandella. Tonight, this all-new outfit will play songs of Led Zeppelin, the Zombies, and "Maybe" Janis Joplin.
Notes about El-Tayyab: winner of "Best Vocal Performance" 2013 Berkeley Old-Time Music Competition, finalist in the 2011 International songwriting competition, and "Honorable Mention" at the 2011 Rocky Mountain Folk Festival Songwriter Competition.

THE CREAK (SF)
This acoustic quintet has roots in the bluegrass and folk tradition, but also elements of blues and punk which help them forge a sound both new and old. It's "San Francisco Bluegrass" at it's finest.
