GoodBye Cafe du Nord: Holiday Massacre!

SEE EVENT DETAILS
What better way to end the year and say goodbye to Café du Nord than with an Old-Time Southern Murder Hour? It's sad, but true- Cafe du Nord has been sold. Please come out and show your support for local live music. It's gonna be one hell of a party!

OLD-TIME SOUTHERN MURDER HOUR: Holiday Massacre!
*A Killer Night of Psychobilly, Horrorbilly, Rockabilly & Hillbilly*
Featuring: Memphis Murder Men + Pine Box Boys + Whisky Pills Fiasco + Lester T. Raww’s Graveside Quartet

MEMPHIS MURDER MEN (Oakland)
50s rock 'n' roll's bastard child - that just about sums up The Memphis Murder Men. Originally hailing from Pittsburgh, PA, the band evolved from the Steel City's first horror-punk outfit - The Brain Invaders - and now call Oakland their home. These guys have fired up the stage with The Misfits, Tiger Army, The Murder Junkies, The Quakes, The Guana Batz and just about every legendary psychobilly band there is. The group completely embodies the rock 'n' roll that gave birth to every punk, rockabilly, and psychobilly band out there and do it without regrets or fear of what "the scene" might think. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, The Memphis Murder Men are putting the nail in the coffin of bad rock 'n' roll and cranking out loud and proud rock-n-roll the way the greats did.

THE PINE BOX BOYS (SF)
The men of the Pine Box Boys met on a crisp cold day in the winter of 2003 at the funeral of a lady who was murdered on her wedding day. The story of that gruesome murder and how each member of the band came to know her are unclear. But a keen listener can decipher parts of the story in the songs of the Pine Box Boys, but never the full truth. The boys swear the true story will go with them to the grave.
Even though the boys had never seen or spoke to one another before the funeral, after the funeral they all found themselves bellied up to the bar at the only tavern in town. Each one in there for his own reason. Some say that was the first and only time anyone has seen Lester Raww tear up and cry.
Sitting there at the bar the boys began to talk. They talked about many things; life, lost love, zombies, but the core discussion was sex, drugs and rock-n-roll. And not once did they talk about the murdered lady or why they were drawn into the bar. Legend claims the reason they were drawn into that bar that cold winters night is to tell the story of that gruesome night. And the only way the boys can talk about it is through song. Over the last decade the boys have told that story over and over, and now 10 years later they are on a new chapter of music. What the next ten years will bring no one knows. Let’s all hope another gory murder happens soon.

WHISKY PILLS FIASCO (SF)
The Whisky Pills Fiasco play a hi-octane variety of originals and covers that take you on a back-roads joyride thru Rockabilly, Surf, Country, Americana, Swing and anything in between.
Created three years ago with a couple of transplants from the southeast playing the regional music they love, the Whisky Pills Fiasco have grown into an uniquely versatile, high energy show that pleases crowds wherever they play. At back yards B.B.Q.’s, neon lit bars or outside festivals, this band is equally at home and always gets the party started.

LESTER T. RAWW’S GRAVESIDE QUARTET (SF)
Lester T. Raww and his Pine Box Boy cohorts - Possum Carvidi, Col. Timothy Leather, and Uncle Dodds have created a new band and a new sound to celebrate their fascination with things morbid. While the themes are similar, The Graveside Quartet picks up where "Tales From The Emancipated Head" left off, leaving the Pine Box Boys free to continue hootin' and hollerin' their way through Lester's murder ballads. The Graveside Quartet steers clear of the country vibe, dubiously replacing the banjo with an accordion.
