ArtSpan's SF Open Studio Opening Reception for George Gund and Rafe Mischel

at Gund Photography Studio in the SF Film Centre (see times)
Gund Photography Studio, in collaboration with SF ArtSpan, is thrilled to announce a joint exhibition of photos by George Gund and paintings by Rafe Mischel, for the last weekend of Open Studios, 2014. Opening Friday, November 7th, with a reception for the artists from 5-8pm. Drawing from their native San Francisco roots, George and Rafe will showcase works reflecting their unique perspectives on life in the urban setting.

George’s poignant images are captured and composed with the full intention of translating the gritty and unbalanced relationship between the constraining aesthetics of man and the relentless determination of nature. With the use of unconventional techniques, George’s images offer both a captivating and unnerving visual commentary of a collective memory which recalls more robust times in recent history. A wayward traveler with boundless curiosity, George produces much of his work while frequenting his second home, Sao Paulo, Brazil and from wherever else the winds may carry him.

Rafe’s paintings reflect his perspective of the world around him, in particular the contrast between the softness and fluidity of the natural world, and the hard forms and patterns of urban architecture. The combination of these elements creates the drama Rafe strives to capture and recreate in his works. Strong lines, bold colors and striking compositions draw the viewer’s eye to the rich details that fill each piece. Captivated by the endless aspects of his native city, Rafe seeks to explore the harmony and juxtapositions he observes in everyday life.

Gund Photography Studio is located in the Presidio at: 39 Mesa Street, Suite 105, San Francisco, CA 94129. Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday, 11am-5pm.
