Picturehouse Reopens with Metallica Through The Never
Nearly five years since it was shut down in a merger, the independent film production and distribution company Picturehouse will once again open its doors with Metallica Through The Never, a docu-drama featuring the Bay Area band, as its first release.
With founder Bob Berney behind the desk, the once popular indie art house company responsible for films like Pan’s Labyrinth and The King of Kong are back. Originally a joint venture between HBO and New Line Cinema, the brand was consolidated into Warner Bros. following a merger with Time Warner, before being shut down completely. However, the company is back in action and better than ever. An exclusive deal with Netflix means all future films will appear on Netflix, in the U.S., shortly after their theatrical debuts. That’s good news for metal fans everywhere as their first film features Bay Area favorite’s Metallica, and is titled Metallica Through The Never.
The film, which is about and stars the pioneers of metal, focuses on Dane Dehaan (Chronicle, Lawless) as a young crew member sent out on a mission, only to find his life is changed forever, all while the band plays to a sold-out crowd. Directed by Nimrod Antal (Predators), the film is set to hit theaters on August 9. That’s ample time to perfect the sign of the horns for a theater setting.
