Celebrity Cruises Pop-Up Docks in San Francisco

Pop-Ups have been a growing trend in the Bay Area, with chefs testing their wares in restaurants that are either closed or they have rented out. Now, the idea is being brought from sea to land in San Francisco.

Celebrity Cruises is bringing its award-winning cuisine from the ship to the land, with two pop-up dates on November 14 and 15 at Stable Cafe in the Mission District. Celebrity Cruises Director of Culinary Operations, Chef John Suley, will prepare a unique menu featuring some of the best local ingredients. Suley, a James Beard nominated chef, led his team to a similar experience, becoming the first cruise line to prepare dinner at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City earlier this year.

“Most people would not expect a cruise line to create a pop-up style restaurant experience on land, or for that experience to offer such an avant-garde menu,” Suley said. “We will be using a diverse range of techniques to offer guests a menu full of contrasts that harmonize with each other – different textures, tastes and flavors – with a special focus on local ingredients that celebrate the San Francisco area.”

There will be both lunch and dinner seatings each day (although space is very limited).

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Celebrity Cruises Scholarship at The Culinary Institute of America. Lunch is $25, dinner $50.

Stable Cafe is located at 2128 Folsom Street in San Francisco.
