Become a Safeway Chef

Safeway has an open position in their corporate kitchen in Pleasanton, CA. But instead of using standard hiring procedures, they’ve announced a nationwide Top Chef style competition, winner gets the job. This full time position is part of the team developing Safeway’s Open Nature brand line of products.

The contest is intended for culinary students and people with professional cooking experience. To enter submit a resume, a skillet recipe using natural ingredients and photo of the dish, and a statement of why you want to be a Safeway chef and why your dish is special by March 7, 2012.

Aspiring chefs shouldn’t frown at this opportunity, corporate chefs are highly sought after positions with a better salary than the average restaurant kitchen. Plus state of the art resources to develop recipes for a wide range of consumers.

The top 25 prospective candidates will be asked to provide a video introducing themselves. Facebook users will cast votes for “People’s Choice” on April 9 to 20. And 12 will be selected to advance split into 3 groups, to the regional cook offs: at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco on April 23, Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Seattle, on April 25, and Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago, on April 27. Then the 3 finalist will face off at the corporate kitchen in Pleasanton on May 16, where Executive Chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli and a select panel of judges will pick the winner. Good luck chefs!
