Preview: Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks at Slim's

What exactly is a Jick? In his biography on the band’s webpage, Stephen Malkmus, frontman of Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, defines it as “J from Jagger plus Mick minus M.”

Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks return to San Francisco on February 28th for a performance at Slim’s with support from Nurses. The band’s most recent album, Mirror Traffic, produced by Beck, has received numerous positive reviews from industry-shaping publications like Spin and Rolling Stone since its release last year.

Mirror Traffic, true to Malkmus’s style and previous work, is witty, poetic and politically charged. However, his lyrics are more mature, a thoughtful mix of honest and humor that is wise yet still evocative of a youthful blood flow.

Malkmus’s Jicks are Joanna Bolme, Mike Clark, and Jake Morris. The group played with a light-hearted yet technical precision at last year’s Treasure Island Music Festival, cracking jokes with the audience between songs and really enjoying themselves. The band’s performance at Slim’s should be equally as fun, and a great opportunity to see them in an intimate space.

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks perform at Slim’s on February 28th. The show starts at 8pm and tickets are $20.
