Fans to Select Next Extra Dessert Delight Gum Flavor
Extra gum is inviting the public for the first time ever to select the next Dessert Delight flavor through an online vote.
Extra already has five successful flavors in production: Orange Creme Pop, Apple Pie, Mint Chocolate Chip, Strawberry Shortcake and Key Lime Pie. And now, you can help them choose the next flavor, either Root Beer Float, Bananas Foster of Lemon Square.
The company was in town this week allowing a select group to test the new flavors and the desserts that inspired them. Officials said that the majority of the people who have voted thus far have not had a chance to taste the flavors but are just voting on what flavor they would like to see introduced.
They have also visited New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles, but those tastings were strictly for media. The San Francisco event was also open to regular consumers.
Getting a chance to taste each, my first impression was that the Bananas Foster flavor really stood out. I am a fan of the dessert to begin with and the gum was a nice mix of both the banana and caramelized sugar flavors that you would get in the dessert. Next on my list was the Lemon Square, which was inspired by a recent Quickfire Challenge winner on Bravo’s “Top Chef Just Desserts.” The gum had enough tanginess and lemon flavor to be a viable choice. Ironically, my least favorite flavor is both the current leader in fan voting and one of my favorite desserts or sweet treats, the Root Beer Float. I honestly just didn’t think it had quite enough flavor and was much blander than the other two choices. Most of the other fellow tasters were in agreement as the top choice was a split between Lemon Square and Bananas Foster.
Fans can vote until November 12 on Facebook (www.facebook.com/extragum) and you can vote as often as you like. The winner will be announced on November 16 and the newest flavor will be launched in the summer of 2012.
