BART police officer Johannes Mehserle, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for fatally shooting Oscar Grant, is slated to be released from jail in Los Angeles on Monday, June 13th. Let the rioting begin.
According to the SF Appeal, Grant’s family members along with activists will be staging a protest at the L.A. county courthouse and will then be marching the the “U.S. Department of Justice office to demand that Mehserle be prosecuted in the federal court system.”
There is also a protest, consisting of a “coalition of groups opposed to Mehserle’s release”, being planned for this Sunday, June 12 at 3pm at the Fruitvale BART station. They protesters will then be marching to 14th Street and Broadway in downtown Oakland. I’m sure there’;; be plenty of riot cops on hand standing ready to curtail any riot-like behavior.
