Alcatraz Evacuated After False Alarm

More than a thousand people were evacuated from Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay on Sunday afternoon after a faulty fire alarm went off.

Officials with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area said the alarm went off around 1:30 p.m. and could not be reset.

There were no reports of smoke or flames found on the island.

Officials said tours were canceled for the rest of the day while investigators looked into the issue. No injuries were reported.
