Is Muni Chief Leaving for D.C.?

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Executive Director Nathaniel Ford is a finalist for the position heading Washington D.C.’s airport authority.

Citing comments from both Tom Nolan, chairman of the SFMTA and Ford’s spokesman Paul Rose, both confirmed that he is being considered for the job heading the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Nolan told the Chronicle that “Ford should hear whether he has the new job around March 1.” He said if Ford is hired, he will stay on to head Muni for 45 days or longer.

The news comes as Muni is facing a financial crisis. Just last week, financial advisers estimated that the agency could face a $1 billion-plus budget deficit over the next 20 years.

Ford joined the agency five years ago. If he is hired by the Washington D.C. agency, Nolan said they would conduct a national search to replace him.
