Fining Bicyclists Talking on Cell Phones

ABC News reports that State Senator Joe Simitian (of Palo Alto) plans on introducing a bill that would allow cyclists who are talking on their cell phones while biking to be fined $20. The logic is that bicycles are subjected to the same traffic laws as cars, and if it is now illegal for drivers to use their cellphones without a wireless device then the same should apply to cyclists.

According to ABC, “Senator Semitian says he’s optimistic that the bill willl pass without major opposition.”
