Valentine’s Day Guide: Flowers

Business is Blooming

Flowers on Valentine’s Day: cliché? Perhaps, but who says that means they must be an unoriginal bouquet of red roses? Below are a few places that will happily help you create an original arrangement that truly wows.

Rosebowl Florist & Wine Bar
Wine and flowers? Yes please! Opened in 1980 by Madame O’Merde, Rosebowl Florist & Wine Bar is still going strong and has earned a loyal following for good reason. In addition to radiant blooms, peruse a selection of fine wines for a winningly classy combination. All ingredients needed for a one-of-a-kind gift arrangement and artistry one might hope for.

Church Street Flowers
Conveniently located on Church at Market, Church Street Flowers is popular for its personal attention in creating heartfelt arrangements to express your sentiments. Give them your budget and watch the magic unfold.

Studio Choo
Known for using locally grown blooms whenever possible in vintage containers, hand-crafted vases from independent artists, and vessels reclaimed from nature, Studio Choo is run by best friends Alethea Harampolis and Jill Pilotte. The studio does not have a storefront now, but deliveries are available throughout the Bay Area. Watch for the shop opening at 262 Divisadero Street, planned for February!

In addition to a large inventory of fresh flowers, Fresh also does dried floral arrangements — sure to be unique and everlasting. Local deliveries have a surcharge of $10 per order, and for same-day deliveries, orders must be placed by 4pm. Since Valentine’s Day is a peak holiday, be sure to place your order at least a few days in advance. You’ll also find gift baskets, cards, and candles here.

Rose and Radish
After getting flooded out of its original digs in Hayes Valley, Rose and Radish has relocated to Pier 3 on the Embarcadero. And though the new location also offers much more than floral arrangements, they can still whip together a brilliant bunch of blooms for any occasion, along with many other beautiful trinkets for gifting.

PK Art and Floral Design
Pam, an established floral designer in Thailand, opened PK Art and Floral Design with Kanit in 2002, and the two have a glowing track record for their floral arrangements. They receive weekly flower deliveries from all over the world — Holland, Columbia, South Africa, and Ecuador, to name a few.

Run by Maxine Siu, Stem carries as wide range of flowers as well as home accessories, cards, books, and other gifts. You can make your arrangement own arrangement or give your target price range and see what results.
