A Musical Tribute to Sax Legends Art Porter & George Howard
"The musical selections from both Porter’s and Howard’s impressive collections are very clever and expressive and keeps the crowd involved the entire night." - Derrick Hooks/Smooth Jazz Ride

Sunday, Sep 8

7pm $21 adv, $25 door

Denver-based saxophonist Tony Exum, Jr. and Atlanta-based saxophonist Dee Lucas have teamed to bring you the 'Just for Art & George' Tribute show.

Just For Art & George is a musical tribute/celebration of the late Contemporary jazz saxophonists Art Porter and George Howard who lost their lives prematurely to a boating accident in Asia and colon cancer respectively in the mid-90's. Tony Exum, Jr and Dee Lucas, both considered by many as rising stars of the smooth jazz world, feel compelled to sacrifice their original musical compositions during these shows to restore and reflect on the impact these two great saxmen had in the contemporary jazz genre during the mid-80’s and throughout the 90’s.

In 2012, The Tribute debuted on January 3rd at Blues Alley in Washington, DC followed by Jazz at Jacks in Denver, CO on (2/26) then on to Jazzy Blu Lounge and Café in Louisville, KY on (3/23) and The Jazz Underground in Birmingham, AL on (11/24).

The show resumes at Yoshi’s Jazz Club and Japanese Restaurant in San Francisco, CA on (9/8) then to Spaghettini Grill and Jazz Club in Seal Beach, CA on (11/20) then back to the East Coast for stops in Washington, DC and New York, NY.

The Just for Art & George Tribute Show has been very well received by audiences and critics alike, and look to continue this musical journey as they celebrate the life and music of two greats Art Porter and George Howard.
