The Missing

In this generally forgettable movie, the ethereal Cate Blanchett plays Maggie, a rugged, independent frontier woman with a love for Christianity, a deep suspicion of Native Americans and some serious daddy issues. After one of her daughters gets kidnapped, she (predictably) teams up with a mysterious wannabe Native American (Tommy Lee Jones) and they chase after the offenders. This movie is essentially a story about the reconciliation between a remiss father and his angry, abandoned daughter. It features clichés, formulaic plot devices and a whole lot of "Indian" mumbo-jumbo which is supposed to make you sympathize for and respect their rich culture but only serves to offend with its superficiality. Save yourself some time and rent this baby next year - if you insist on watching it at all.
