RAWDANCE PRESENTS THE CONCEPT SERIES: 13
An informal and intimate salon of contemporary dance. Complete with popcorn.
On March 9th and 10th, RAWdance will present the 13th installation of the CONCEPT series, the ever popular and cozy showcase of Bay Area contemporary dance, housed at the 66 Sanchez Studio in San Francisco's Duboce Triangle. The twice-yearly salon focuses on intimacy and innovation, offering a view into the various stages of dance creation with veteran and emerging choreographic talents. Thanks to its special mix of high quality art in a relaxed and attitude-free atmosphere, the CONCEPT series was named “Best Way to Sample S.F.s Contemporary Dance Scene” in SF’s Weekly’s 2012 Best Of issue.
Artists are encouraged to share work at any point along the creation process, be it revisiting repertory, testing out an excerpt in a new context, or sharing a work-in-progress fresh from the studio. For the CONCEPT series: 13, RAWdance will reveal two brewing works, including one spree of vigorous, expansive partnering in a tiny, contained space. Guest artist Randee Paufve will share part of an in-progress solo Soil, launched from the experiences of invisibility/visibility in middle age, expressed through a fierce vitality that belies the performer’s aging body. Here Now Dance Collective will offer a sneak peak of This is Dedicated..., a new dance theater piece performed within the frame of an old WWI dance-a-thon game with rules, a referee, a winner, and lots of losers. Mark Foehringer Dance Project|SF will bring a classically based duet for dancers Heather Cooper and Brian Fisher. Alison Williams Dance brings Edit, an investigation of earthquakes, dubstep, and predictability. And Shinichi Iova-Koga and Larry Ochs work with an improvisational score of sound and movement, joined by Dohee Lee on Saturday.
The CONCEPT series began in 2007 and has shared the work of 49 guest artists to date, in addition to RAWdance.
