From the Cuban flavor of Buena Vista Social Club to the New York Salsa grooves of Ruben Blades, Edgardo Cambon y LaTiDo touch upon a number of Latin styles with energy and ease, including bolero, cha-cha and mambo. Described as a "Power Salsa 5tet," the band specializes in traditional Latin dance music of varying flavors.
The group was founded in 2003 by renowned conguero and Uruguayan-born lead vocalist Edgardo Cambon – a Summer Fest favorite – who draws upon more than 30 years as a working musician. In just five short years of existence, the ensemble has already performed to sold-out audiences at a number of renowned venues, including Yoshi's, Yerba Buena Gardens, San Francisco Jazz Festival and the Sonoma Jazz Festival. They’ve also appeared on the Food Network show Easy Entertaining with host Michael Chiarello.
Intricate vocal harmonies and energetic rhythms and throbbing pulses instantly bring to mind the inspiration for LaTiDo, which is a play on the Spanish word for heartbeat. Cambon adds atop their sound a bandstand expertise that lets him expertly read crowds to keep dancers on the floor. As KCSM Program Director Jesse "Chuy" Varela declares, Cambon "has mastered that great ability to lead his Salsa band from the conga drums while singing lead vocals. Now that’s a show by itself!"
