"Pour in a Variety of Genres, Shake Well, Serve. Crowd Loves It." - The Washington Post.

Beloved Oregon-based "little orchestra" Pink Martini for three nights. The music of Pink Martini melds jazz and cinematic themes with driving rhythms and exotic vocals, producing an exhilarating concert experience that's part language lesson, part old-fashioned Hollywood spectacle.

~~~~~~~~
Pound for pound, no other band does what Pink Martini does. With the combined power of a dozen musicians, the self-described "little orchestra" performs a rollicking cross-genre mix of classical, jazz, and old-fashioned pop The Washington Post called "rich, hugely approachable, utterly cosmopolitan yet utterly unpretentious... it seems to speak to just about everybody."
The return with their infectiously joyous, dance-friendly takes on classic holiday music to make your season swing, as captured on their 2010 release Joy to the World.
Formed in 1994 by pianist Thomas Lauderdale in Portland, Oregon, the group has built a monstrous fan base through performances in settings ranging from the Cannes Film Festival and the Grand Opening of Los Angeles' Walt Disney Concert Hall, to late night television with David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Jay Leno, and Jools Holland and even a video greeting to the astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Fronted by a pair of dynamic vocalists, China Forbes and Storm Large, Pink Martini has performed with over 50 of the world's great orchestras and released 16 albums on Lauderdale's own Heinz imprint, most recently EPs recorded in conjunction with Portland pianist/singer Jimmie Herrod and vocalist Edna Vazquez.
~~~~~~~~

Need a fresh perspective on what it means to be an American? Take a lesson from Harvard grad and Pink Martini band leader Thomas M. Lauderale, a guy whose music employs a veritable mixed drink (think Cosmopolitan) of sounds, resulting in a sort of international freeway where all the drivers speak different languages. The heterogeneousness is, of course, the point. "We're very much an American band," writes Lauderale on the band's website, "but we spend a lot of time abroad...and have an incredible opportunity to represent a different kind of America through our repertoire and our concerts- that is, an America comprised of people from every country, every language, and every religion." 1930's era French jazz, Brazilian samba, and Middle Eastern raga are just a few of Pink Martini's choice ingredients.
