Monster

In this movie, based on the sad but true story about serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a Florida prostitute who killed her johns, your eyes may believe they have been deceived. A literally completely transformed Charlize Theron plays Aileen; her skin is in ruins, she's got false teeth, a wig and has gained a hefty 40 or so pounds. Guided by a strong voice-over, which eases off as the film progresses, you are given the run-down on Aileen's miserable life to date. After she meets Selby Wall (Christina Ricci), who then becomes her completely delusional, and quite whiny, girlfriend, things start to take a turn for the better (or so you think). Theron's powerful, moving performance says Oscar all over it. A word to the wise- there are graphic scenes of violence- both physical and emotional- that can make it difficult to watch. At the surface this movie is about a serial killer but upon further inspection it is much more.
