Litquake Turns 20! With an opening party on Thursday, October 10 at Monroe, followed by its first night of programming with Eureka! California's Best Authors Read by More of the Same on Friday, on October 11, at the Swedish American Hall, this year's festival sets the bar high.
"Eureka" promises to be especially memorable with a cast of marquee literary names taking turns sharing the same stage at this very "only in San Francisco" evening: Tobias Wolff, Daniel Handler, Natalie Baszil, Adam Johnson, Charlie Jane Anders, Ishmael Reed, Elaine Castillo, Ingrid Rojas Contreras and Chang-Rae Lee who will read the works of Jack London, Gertrude Stein, Alice Walker, Dashiell Hammett and others.
Over the course of the 10 day festival more than 800 authors and luminaries from a variety of disciplines and experiences appearing at venues throughout the city, including Ann Patchett, Jeannette Winterson, Jane Hirshfield, Chip Conley, comedian, actor and SNL alumnus Chris Kattan with his new memoir, Baby Don't Hurt Me: Stories and Scars from Saturday Night Live.
Also on deck the famously-present-but-never-heard-from-in-his-books and now ex-wife of Karl Ove, Linda Bostrom Knausgard representing her just translated into English novel Welcome to America, that coincidentally or not features a woman who is completely silent; NY Times technology reporter Mike Isaac with Super Pumped, The Battle for Uber; Roger McNamee (author of Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe); Latinx author Michelle Ruiz Keil; Nigerian-American writer Tope Folarin with A Particular Kind of Black Man, and bestselling author of The Nightingale and The Great Alone, Kristin Hannah.
Another highlight is sure to be "The White Devil's Daughters: A Chinatown Walking Tour" with author Julia Flynn Siler at the Chinese Cultural Center
