The Shattuck Cinemas opened in May 1988 on the ground floor of the lovely Shattuck Hotel in downtown Berkeley, just one block from the University of California-Berkeley. It features an eclectic mix of Hollywood favorites, foreign language cinema and independent film and is just one block from the BART station. A veritable plethora of intriguing food establishments is within easy walking distance of the theatre.

------

"The Acts" have been one of the East Bay's premiere homes to first-run foreign language cinema and independent film since its opening in 1971. The theatre is entrenched in the heart of the Downtown Berkeley scene, within walking distance of coffeehouses, sidewalk cafes and various shopping opportunities. The building in which the Acts reside is almost 100 years old, having formerly been a furniture store, a shoe store and a children's clothing boutique before emerging in its current form as a movie theatre.
