More about Joan Baez

Joan Baez was one the best troubadours from the '60s folk revival scene. She was not only one of the earliest visible female songwriters in American popular culture, but she was also (and continues to be) a political advocate for women's rights, LGBT, civil rights. The Indigo Girls emerged a bit later in the mid-'80s, but were one of the first openly gay acts in mainstream music. Like Baez, they've been human rights political advocates throughout their career, plus they wrote a whole bunch of great folk-rock tunes. (Amulya Datla)
