Hip-Hop Artist Common Joins Forces with the SF Symphony for a One-Night Performance

Rapper, actor, and activist Common announced a unique partnership with the San Francisco Symphony to host a one-night, orchestrated performance. The concert will be conducted Steven Reineke, who will lead the SF Symphony orchestra to enhance tracks from the Grammy and Golden Globe award-winning artist’s 2016 album, Black America Again, along with some of his other hits.

In addition to the potent protest rap album, the symphony will accompany Common for other cinematic tracks like “The Light” from Like Water for Chocolate, “Testify” and “Go!” from Be, and “Glory” from Selma. Tickets for the show are on sale now starting at $65.

This show is a highlight among the SF symphony’s recent programming which has focused on pushing the envelope when it comes to combining classic orchestra with modern art, such as films and mainstream music. The Symphony also recently announced their summer concert film series, featuring live accompaniment during showings of the original Star Wars trilogy and the Little Mermaid on the big screen.
