DJ Sep is the founder, promoter, and main resident DJ at Dub Mission. For 22 years, Sep was also on Bay Area radio: first on the highly-influential college station, KUSF and later at Berkeley’s public radio station, KPFA. She's the co-compiler of Babylon Is Ours: The USA in Dub, a collection of all-exclusive American dub tracks (Select Cuts Records). In 2009, Mochipet's Daly City Records released her remixes (with Jason Short) of "Get Your Dub Wet" featuring Juakali and Mista Chatman. Sep has won a Goldie Award (Bay Guardian) and been nominated for Best DJ (SF Weekly Music Awards). She has spun in London, Vancouver, Tijuana, New York, Washington DC, Miami, Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles and has opened for the likes of Sly & Robbie, Lee “Scratch” Perry, The Wailers, Culture, Big Youth, Les Nubians, Rachid Taha, Kinky, and many others.
Vinnie Esparza is a staple of the S.F. DJ scene and spins at various parties around the city. In 2000 Vinnie won "Best Local DJ" in the Bay Guardian's "Best of the Bay" edition. The next year he won the City Search Editor's Award for "Best Local DJ." He has also been nominated for "Best Local DJ" in the SF Weekly in both 2001 and 2003. He was the first DJ to play the Monterey Jazz Festival on their 50th Anniversary and was asked to return the following year. He has also been asked to spin the Quebec City Jazz Festival, and was again their first-ever DJ booking. He has compiled the Loose & Juicy collection for Vanguard Records, Viva CuBop 2 for Ubiquity Records and coordinated the reissue of Bobby Montez's Jungle Fantastique for the same label. Vinnie spins a wide variety of music including roots reggae, jazz, hip hop, and soul to name only a few.
Maneesh the Twister has been a staple of the Bay Area music scene for over 15 years as part of Surya Dub, Dub Mission, and Dhamaal. Maneesh has been voted "Best Club DJ" in the SF Bay Guardian. Will Magid's music is always a joyous affair. A Trumpeter, producer, and ethnomusicologist, Will’s unique style of live performance and electronic sampling seamlessly blends original music with sounds from across the globe. Will, who studied ethnomusicology at UCLA, has gathered inspiration from playing music on every continent except Antarctica. Will Magid’s trumpet will take you to Havana in the summertime. It will take you to a West African wedding and, simultaneously, a French dance club. It will take you to soul music in Japan, a 1920's speakeasy, then to the cusp of the end of the world, where everyone’s dancing because they have nothing to lose. The trumpet will holler vibrantly no matter what. And it’s a flexible instrument, well suited for his music production style with victorious leaps among sounds from the past, sounds from here and sounds from elsewhere. While he’s devoted to his trumpet, Will is truly a multi-instrumentalist/producer. The resulting pieces are buoyant jams packed with rich layers of celebratory horns, bouncing percussion, classical strings and even a bit of ambient noise. Will has toured and collaborated with many talented artists from diverse genres of music, such as Afrolicious, Bonobo, Solomon Burke, Erykah Badu, Pretty Lights, Kenny Burrell, Zigaboo Modeliste, Baba' Ken Okulolo, Ocote Soul Sounds, CocoRosie, Jeremy Sole, J-Boogie, and the Mutaytor. He is also the founder of the Bay Area concert series World Wide Dance Party, celebrating music traditions from around the world and social justice. ??? A collector of sounds, Will layers the familiar with the curious, building imaginary worlds somehow both strange and close to home. His latest releases include Gynopedie No. 1, Alligator Spacewalk, and Alligator Spacewalk Remixes.
