Get your holiday season off to the right start as GRAMMY-nominated and critically acclaimed vocalist and pianist Freddy Cole presents his Special Christmas Tribute to Nat King Cole. Cole, the younger brother of Nat and the uncle of Natalie Cole, will perform Nats eternal The Christmas Song (with chestnuts roasting on an open fire) and other holiday favorites, plus pop and jazz classics associated with his famed brother.
While there are similarities between Freddy and Nat, Freddys voice is both jazzier and earthier and his piano playing more relaxed and understated. He has honed an intimate, conversational style that will fit perfectly in the intimate space of Blue Note Napa. Youll hear Coles musical stories, up close and personal.
Known for his encyclopedic knowledge of songs, Cole has been a prolific recording artist since the 1990s, a period in which hes recorded some 25 albums. His varied recording projects include ballads, blues, Brazilian, contemporary pop songs, and tributes to Tony Bennett and Billy Eckstine. And his 2016 new release is a tribute to brother Nat called He Was The King.
Born in Chicago in 1931 to a family of musicians, Freddy began performing in clubs there as a teenager. After heading east he studied at Juilliard and obtained a Masters degree from New England Conservatory. Since 1972 he has been based in Atlanta from where he's brought his suave and elegant vocals and piano to the world.
Freddy has an impeccable sense of swing... he is, overall, the most maturely expressive male jazz singer of his generation, if not the best alive." The New York Times
" Gorgeous autumnal baritone, expressive phrasing and pitch-perfect feel for jazz standards, pop tunes and love ballads." People Magazine
