Atmosphere - Tour De Friends

SEE EVENT DETAILS
For over two decades, Atmosphere has maintained a course of rigorous output, releasing over two dozen studio albums, EP's and collaborative side projects in as many years. In that time, the venerated duo have built a legacy out of bringing honesty, humility and vulnerability to the forefront of their music, continually challenging themselves to evolve without straying too far from their roots. Slug has proven masterful at storytelling and writing compelling narratives, leaving a trail of his own influence while paying homage to the rappers and songwriters that helped shape him. Ant has skillfully molded the soundtracks with inspiration from soul, funk, rock, reggae, and the wizardry of hip-hop's pioneering DJ's and producers, creating his own trademark sounds while providing the pulse for songs about life, love, stress and setbacks. At its essence, Atmosphere has been a musical shepherd, and with each new album comes a new journey as they guide generations of listeners through this thing called life.

~~~~~~~~
Minneapolis hip hop heroes Atmosphere have announced their seventh studio album Fishing Blues, out August 12 on Rhymesayers. Producer Ant and lyricist / rapper Slug have been making music together as Atmosphere for over 20 years and have managed to continually tweak and strive to perfect their formula, while neither straying too far off their path, nor resorting to playing it safe and that holds true on the new set. Fishing Blues is a collection of songs that both define and redefine the Atmosphere sound and features 18 new tracks written and produced by Atmosphere with appearances from DOOM, Aesop Rock, Kool Keith, The Grouch and more.
The first taste of Fishing Blues comes in the form of new track and video "Ringo." The video shows a past-his-prime actor playing a king & jester, mocked by his peers and those that once respected his work--a sharp look at today's pop culture environment where today's heroes are tomorrow's joke. With the repeated refrain "Everybody want to see a falling star," the track and video also speak directly to the title of the new album. Some might ask with the title, "Is this the point in their career where Atmosphere chooses to step back, put up the Gone Fishin' sign and reminisce about their successes?" The answer is a resounding "no" and the single and video prove just that. Watch "Ringo" now: http://bit.ly/RingoMusicVid.
The impact of Atmosphere's music has been the roots to their long-term success, but their continued rigorous touring and performance schedule has been the vessel for engraining these stories and the legacy of the music into their fan base. The pair is set to bring Fishing Blues to fans across North America during their extensive "Freshwater Fly Fishermen Tour" this summer and fall.
Atmosphere's music has evolved in a way that differs from many of their peers and predecessors. Ant has continued to define Atmosphere's sound, ranging from a healthy mixture of upbeat and fun, to the oft more iconic, moody and personal. Slug has been consistently successful in leveraging his understanding for the power of words, recognizing that a song containing the right story or personal perspective can be extremely effective in capturing and holding the listener's attention. With their passion and creative spark as illuminate as ever, the pair prove they still have plenty of stories to tell.
