SF Station Blows It Up

1. Rilo Kiley @ The Concourse at SF Design Center, San Francisco, April 17, 2008

Rilo Kiley returned to SF last Thursday night to droves of screaming fans and a beautiful light show at The Concourse. As always Jenny Lewis and the crew rocked the house with great tunes that made my feet stomp and my head rock from side to side. This was the second part of the tour promoting their new album Under the Blacklight, so we got to hear some great new tunes and some better classics.

2. NERD @ HP Pavilion, San Jose, April 19, 2008

As I got escorted into the venue on the 3rd night of the Kanye West Glow in the Dark tour to photograph the three opening acts, I looked around and saw the diversity that is hip hop and, more precisely, which Mr. West brings to hip hop. Black, White, Asian, Latino all mixed together in music with one purpose -- to have a great time. With great rhymes from Lupe Fiasco, Rihannaís sultry voice and with NERDís rocking drums and guitar, it was a musical jambalaya and Kanye West as the meat.

3. Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige @ Oracle Arena, Oakland, April 21, 2008

I must say Jay and Mary know how to put on a show with a giant screen backdrop, full band and pyrotechnics. It was a very interesting show to watch because of how it was structured; in most co-headliner tours, one band plays and then another but on this it was Jay and Mary together from the first tune as well as solo stuff of course. You could tell that the crowd loved every moment because there was no moment at which it was silent or even quiet and if you werenít there -- man you missed a good show.
