SF Station Blows It Up

1. Vampire Weekend @ Popscene, 330 Ritch, San Francisco, January 31, 2008

NYC does it again with Vampire Weekend. With their fun and quirky sound the foursome sold out Popscene last Thursday night. The room was full by 10pm as fans waited for the boys to hit the stage. Looking around, I could see how diverse the crowd was -- everybody from hipsters to middle aged rockers were present and once VW hit the stage it was apparent why. With their great mix of West African pop infused indie rock the boys take you on a journey through sound.

2. We Are Wolves @ Loaded, Rickshaw Stop, San Francisco, February 1, 2008

Canadian rockers We are Wolves played a packed Loaded on Friday February 1st and kicked some ass. I must say, to have a front man playing bass is always cool and Alexander Ortiz is most definitely killer. With electronic infused rock and some creative outfits the trio performed music from their sophomore album Total Magique.

3. Matt Costa @ Slims, San Francisco, February 5, 2008

Matt Costa’s simple folky rock rhythms and beautiful voice translates amazingly from record to a live performance. On Tuesday night standing in front of the stage surrounded by hard-core fans I could see what it was all about. Being backed by a full band, Matt ‘s voice and guitar reminded me about these four kids from the UK called The Beatles.
