SF Station Blows It Up

1. Shawn Christensen of Stellastarr*, live onstage @ Popscene, 330 Ritch, San Francisco, February 8, 2007

Stellastarr* returned to San Francisco for a pair of sold out shows, the first at Popscene and the second at Bottom of the Hill. So I made an effort to go to the Popscene one and it was well worth it with the kids debuting some new tunes and playing some fan favorites. I have to say that the new stuff like “Warchild” has proved that these NYC kids have definitely returned to their roots with soulful lyrics and driving rhythms. http://www.stellastarr.com

2. Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse, live onstage @ The Fillmore, San Francisco, February 10, 2007

With eerie melodic sound Sparklehorse put the entire Fillmore into a trance and with a rock & roll beat it brought it out. I have to say that until the moment that Mark and friends hit the stage I have never herd of Sparklehorse but they definitely have engraved themselves into my psyche. With ghostly guitars, keyboards and lyrics Mark made the place feel amazing. http://www.sparklehorse.com

3. Fantasia, live onstage @ KMELs House of Soul, Ruby Skye, San Francisco, February 12, 2007

House of Soul is the signature event of San Francisco’s leading Hip-Hop and R&B radio station 106 KMEL. With a line up of chart toping artist like Joe, Fantasia, J. Valentine and Tyrese they sold out Ruby Skye. Having to jump in front of the intense fans is always a little scary and this was no different cause as soon as J. Valentine hit the stage the crowed erupted in screams and the show was on. But to me the highlight of the evening was Fantasia who rocked the crowd channeling pre-Bobby Whitney and Joan Jett circa the 70s. http://www.106kmel.com
