SF Station Blows It Up

1. Juan Maclean & James Murphy, backstage @ Mezzanine, San Francisco, September 20, 2006

DFA was in the building on a Wednesday night at Mezzanine and the bass was rocking. If you donít know DFA records you must not be into good music. The record label responsible for LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture and Hot Chip, and the people behind the label James Murphy and Juan Maclean rocked the building. On this night, to my surprise, the music was nothing that you would expect from these legends of the beat. It was dark and chunky with a twist of Juan and James. The crowd was a cool mix of DFA kids, mission bike messengers and straight club kids just having a good time.

2. Jimmy Tamborello of the band Postal Service @ San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Presents College Night With Noise Pop, San Francisco, September 21, 2006

College kids came out in droves to see, hear and experience life and Jimmy Tamborello was there to guide them through it. A mix of pop, rock, electronica and disco filled the room as hipsters vogued. The poster artist Rex Ray also gave a talk about his career and the creative process, which was amazing. The Noise Pop kids have once again done something great with this mix of art and music.

3. DJ Shadow, live on stage @ The Greek Theater, Berkley, September 22, 2006

DJ Shadow is King of the Bay once again with The Outsider his new album. Live on stage at the Greek Theater opening for Massive Attack he showed why, mixing video and the album together. He also had some killer guests come out -- Chris James and Lateef the Truth Speaker who showed the crowd exactly why Shadow is King. The new songs are quite different from Shadow's old beats with vocals that mix Hyphe and punk, soul with rock and some stuff Iíve never heard of. As I looked in to this 7000+ crowed I could see and hear that this was freaking electrifying.
