SF Station Blows It Up

1. Eleanor Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces, live onstage @ The Fillmore, San Francisco, June 15, 2006

The Fillmore played host to The Fiery Furnaces on this warm night in San Francisco. The crowd was made up of hipster kids with their cool hair and slick cloths, and people that were dressed in full masquerade garb. Standing in the middle of this crowd I had a feeling this might be good one and I have to admit that it was. With their dashes of folk, garage rock and a heavy European sound, they opened my eyes and ears and made me get lost in their lyrics.

2. Sound Team, live onstage @ The Independent, San Francisco, June, 16 2006

Austin, TX is now not only known for the Austin City Limits music festival but also the band Sound Team. This band of five really knows how to rock a crowd with complex arrangements of notes lyrics and crazy moves on stage. With a man like Matt Oliver on the vocals with his twang and great guitar and Bill Baird on bass with his crazy steps these guys will be unstoppable. The night had some hang ups with a little problem with a keyboard and a cable, but these guys proved they were real musicians, as they didn’t even flinch and just rolled on unfazed.

3. Kool Keith, live onstage @ Mezzanine, San Francisco, June 16, 2006

One of the original kings of Hip Hop rocked the house last Saturday night. Although Keith was 45 minutes late he hit the stage hard, with KutMaster Kurt on the ones and two’s. Performing new production and some old school hits, Keith was, as always, a stage presence with simple rhymes and a heavy beat. So step on the dance floor and tap your feet!
